With the use of artificial insemination and Caesarean sections that
allow some brachycephalic breeds to reproduce, selection for more extreme versions of this phenotype has occurred and it is likely that genetic modifiers exist for this trait [9], [10].
Most dogs swim instinctively, but don't
allow brachycephalic puppies to swim unsupervised — some are not able to swim at all.
NOTE 2: I recently read — after a series of mishaps, including the death of a puppy French Bulldog — that United was no longer
