As you know AKC does not
allow deaf dogs in competition and we understand, dog shows are about selecting the next generation of breeding stock.
It's debatable whether or not this is a good idea in any situation, but it's probably never a good idea to
allow your deaf dog off the leash in unfenced areas.

Wake a
deaf dog without startling him / her by placing your hand in front of his / her nose and
allowing him / her to smell you.
* Note: Males without two testicles,
dogs that are
deaf, and
dogs that have been spayed or neutered are not
allowed to compete in the conformation ring.
If your
dog is totally
deaf, do not
allow him out of a fenced area unless on a leash.
