allows wage garnishment for payment of child support and taxes.
Most states
allow wage garnishments for unsecured debts; however, four states do not: North and South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Texas.
Texas does
allow wage garnishment for some debts, specifically, those for child support payments, certain IRS tax debts (which are garnished under federal wage garnishment laws), and student loan debts.
As I recall, Texas, North Carolina, and South Carolina, either don't
allow wage garnishment at all, or restrict wage garnishment to very limited circumstances.

wage garnishment, personal liability for mortgages, which prevents deficiency lawsuits,

I haven't heard of employers firing people because of
wage garnishments, but whether that's
allowed will depend on state law and your employment contract.
In most
wage garnishment cases, federal rules
allow up to 25 percent of your disposable wages to be garnished, or the amount by which your income exceeds 30 times the federal minimum
wage — whichever is less.
