For millions of years diamonds have been carried to the Atlantic by the Orange River, creating one of the richest
alluvial diamond fields in the world on the West Coast.
During the 1990s, and into this decade, rebel armies in parts of Africa exploited
alluvial diamond fields to finance wars against legitimate governments.
