The toasted sesame oil and
almond butter give the
sauce a rich
base, while the lime and tamari (aka gluten - free soy
sauce) add some zing.
This traditional Catalan
sauce — made with fried
almonds, garlic and bread — is a fragrant, nutty alternative to the typical tomato -
based dressing.
Thinned with a liquid,
almond butter can be used as a flavor
base for a dressing,
sauce, soup or dessert topping.
It's a great change from tomato -
based sauces, with sweet peppers and
almonds that nourish your very essence.
I also added a quick and easy garlic
almond butter
sauce to the pizza, in place of the ranch dressing one might typically have on a BBQ -
based pizza.
The
sauce has an
almond base, so if you have good blender, you should be able to throw it together in minutes.
Based on the three ingredients I knew it contained (garlic, bell pepper, and
almonds), I experimented a little with the
sauce.
I use the same basic egg /
almond butter
base, sometimes use combos of cooked sweet potato, apple
sauce, or banana, vanilla, and maple syrup from my own maple trees.

I make my cream
sauce for the cheese
base with earth balance, flour, cashew dust (pulverized cashews) OR cashew butter, and unsweeted
almond milk + nutmeg and cayenne.
Folded together with the
almond ricotta, it makes for a flavorful garden vegetable filling that is at - home here with spicy tomato
sauce but would also pair beautifully with a more delicate dairy - free cream - or olive oil -
based sauce if you prefer.
