I used Bob's Red Mill
almond meal for the
almond crust and the filling which
worked great, although I had to estimate how much to use.
I use
almond meal as a substitute for bread crumbs in meatballs so I would imagine it would
work here as well.
(That's another important distinction between the Honeyville product versus Bob's Red Mill, by the way: Bob's Red Mill officially makes
almond meal, which is a coarser texture, and doesn't
work as well for baking.
Same story with coconut and arrowroot flour... neither of which are available here... I was thinking os using oat flour or
almond meal, or a mix of the 2... would it
work?
I subbed 1 cup of the regular flour with
almond meal and reduced regular sugar by 1/2, it
worked out great.
I'm gf and I think instead of gf bread crumbs,
almond meal might
work really well.
I wouldn't be confident that a full swap of flour for
almond meal will give you the desired results; they just don't
work the same way in something like this.

almond and coconut flours so as not to be
almond flour dry or c - flour sweet.
I substituted all purpose gluten free flour for the
almond flour, and a mixture of
almond meal and Psylium for the flaxseed and it still
worked.
(Perhaps subbing ground pumpkin seeds for the
almond meal might just
work!)

I use Bob Red Mill's blanched finely ground
almond meal — I do shift it but it as
worked great.
Add flour, baking powder, salt, and
almond meal and continue mixing for a full minute to
work the coconut oil into the flour.
To be honest, I don't know what other flours would
work with this - I did just post some 3 ingredient banana bread cookies using
almond meal which taste great and are just as easy as this
I'll be substituting
almond meal for the breadcrumbs — it
works very well in every recipe I've done this for.
I miss my pancake recipe with
almond meal in it, but it doesn't
work well with egg replacer.
The macro
almond meal in new Zealand available at countdown
works just fine, so don't stress it southern hemisphere if blanched
almond flour is scarce.
If you just want to try
almond flour out, this recipe does
work with plain ol' Bob's Red Mill blanched
almond meal, which is easiest for me to find in stores.

I have made this before and I loved how it
worked out, but I wanted to know if I could maybe put some
almond meal in with it, just to break up the oatmeal taste.

meal because it's what I had, but
almond meal or another nut would be fine, and I imagine ground sunflower seeds would also
work for a nut - free option.
Hi Melissia, I think we've nailed the issue down — the unblanched
almond meal unfortunately doesn't
work in my recipes.
Blanched
almond flour: Ground
almond meal, or any other ground nut or seed
meal should
work (i.e. sunflower seeds, walnuts, pecans, etc.), though the flavor may be affected with any substitution.
My recipes will not
work with unblanched
almond products, or
almond meal, in fact, they will be epic failures, so I do not recommend even trying unblanched products.
If you have gluten allergies, ground old fashion oats or
almond meal will
work.
I love
working with hazelnut and
almond flour (more
almond than hazelnut)... and on of my latest favorite flours is cashew
meal!
Another substitution that
works well for the soda bread is golden flax
meal for 1/4 of the
almond flour.
Use the recommended ingredients, i.e., when the recipe calls for
almond flour, don't use
almond meal, as it won't
work in the recipe and the results will be poor.
