If needed, oral lactulose (0.1 - 0.5 mL / kg, PO, bid - tid)
along with antibiotic therapy, either neomycin (22 mg / kg, PO, bid) or metronidazole (7.5 mg / kg, PO, bid) are recommended.
In severe cases of pyometra, aggressive
antibiotic therapy along with excellent nursing care (possibly including fluid
therapy) is the best course of action.
