Were this a Sonic title from a few years ago I'd end by renewing the call for a proper 2D
game, but Mania has
already scratched that itch, and for all the sore spots, there is something about modern Sonic's combination of ridiculous speed and
cinematic impact that seems worthy of further investigation.
While the campaign is crafted with an excellent sense of
cinematic detail and tons of flashy yet horrific sequences that capture the essence of war, it's an experience that really doesn't offer anything new to what has
already been seen
already in
games that have
already covered the second World War, and the A.I. — especially friendly soldiers — is occasionally wonky.
As the majority of critics will never have played an Uncharted
game in their life, their reviews will undoubtedly be coloured by their memories of the good Dr. Jones (the closest
cinematic analogue) which, combined with the almost universally negative perception of video
game movie adaptations that
already exists, could severely limit the film's box office success.
We're
already seeing
games become more like older media, such as TV and film, with episodic formats and increasingly
cinematic level design.

game, causing players to miss out on an early
