bonuses, spending, and other methods, I'm

points earning on all your spend that doesn't fall into the other card's

This year I was able to
earn 7,500 Ultimate Rewards
points in both the 1st and 3rd quarter
bonus categories, and if even 1 of those lucrative categories comes back in 2014, I'll
already be way ahead of where I'd be with a $ 95 Sapphire Preferred.
Those of you who are
already Diamond members might know it is very difficult to get lifetime status (the biggest hurdle is 1 million
earned points, not including
bonuses).
You will
earn 1,000
Bonus Points per qualifying night, on top of the Base
Points you
already earn.
As a
bonus, this program even lets you
earn points for flights you've
already taken.
This requires
earning 110K
points in a calendar year, so by signing up for two Southwest credit cards and earnings the sign - up
bonuses, you would
already have
earned the companion pass, entitling you to unlimited buy one, get one free pass for the year.
If a purchase doesn't fall into the current
bonus category, or if you've
already reached the
earning cap, then you'll get just one
point per dollar.
Overall, the 5X is nice but the cap on 2,500
points earned means you can only spend up to $ 500, so this is not a terrific promotion, although if you
already had plans to make purchases in the eligible categories it's not a bad
bonus.
If you
already own another Chase credit card that
earns Ultimate Rewards
points, you should consider picking up either credit card to
earn bonus points on base purchases.
Or, if you
already own a Chase Sapphire card and only need a secondary business credit card to capture
bonus points on the business spending categories that would only
earn one
point each with the Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve.
You can
already earn 1.5 membership rewards
points per dollar by using the Amex Everyday Preferred card (as long as you have 30 + transactions in a month) and there's no minimum spend requirement and there are
bonus points to be
earned for spending at grocery stores and restaurants — not bad for a card that costs $ 95 / year as opposed to the $ 450 / year for the Platinum card.
Stays at Kimpton properties will
earn a base level of 10 IHG Rewards
points per dollar with the same elite
bonus available as we
already have in IHG Rewards:
Plus you may
already have another card with an equal or better travel category
bonus (of which there are several) so you're sacrificing
points in another program just to
earn back that annual fee.
You will not
earn 2X rewards (i) on any
bonus you may
already receive with your Card, including any additional
points / miles / cash back that you may
already receive when you spend on certain types of purchases or at certain merchants or (ii) on any other
bonus / rewards you may
earn with a different promotion or offer from American Express.
We've
already shared the many reasons the Southwest card is a great card for travel, but honestly one of the best ones is that the
points you
earn from the signup
bonus get you nearly halfway to the balance you need for the Southwest Companion pass — and at a strategic time of the year.
The Hilton Surpass credit card from American Express offers a superior 12X
points at Hilton properties, and in my opinion there are
already many better credit cards for
earning bonus points on travel and general purchases.
To hit the annual thresholds, I would have to divert spending from categories that are
already bonused as much or more on other cards (groceries, gas, travel) only to have the
points I
earned convert at a lower rate.
Those
bonus categories are
already respectable; however, if you make at least 30 transactions during your monthly billing cycle, you get a 50 %
points bonus, which allows you to
earn 4.5 x, 3x and 1.5 x, respectively.
The only reason to get this card is if a good signup
bonus comes along, especially if you
already have the AMEX Premier Rewards Gold card to
earn 3X
points for airfare spend.
