Surprising to see these two films winning over the other nominees, but they're
also excellent films, so I can't complain.
This movie is
also an excellent film with a terrific performance from Jeff Bridges.
Not exact matches
They offer freshness for an extended shelf life,
excellent use of shelf space and
also provide significant reductions in
film usage.
The cast are all
excellent, Quaid is good as the tough supportive coach and Brown is very good as Davis showing real love in his role, Dutton as Davis father is
also very good in his short role adding real class to the whole
film.
It was
also excellent marketing that drew in all the WOMEN who love space and rockets, who devour science fiction, who flocked to all the Star Wars and Star Trek
films when they were growing up, who fought hard to be part of NASA's astronaut program, and on and on.
In truth, he had more good
film performances to his credit than one might think: he was
excellent as the tubercular Doc Holliday in John Ford's My Darling Clementine (1948), and
also registered well in Kiss of Death (1947), Cry of the City (1948), The Egyptian (1954), Betrayed (1954), and Chief Crazy Horse (1955).
Lelio, who
also directed the
excellent «Gloria» and last year's Oscar winner for best foreign
film, «A Fantastic Woman,» never shortchanges the desire or the faith, a neat balancing act between the competing elements at the heart of Disobedience, and the success of which makes it so compelling and worthwhile.
The mood is
also helped by an
excellent score by David Holmes that taps into a 70's caper vibe while Soderbergh employs a whole host of stylistic, directorial flourishes; he cleverly plays with the time frame throughout the narrative with complex use of flashbacks and freeze frames and puts a fresh spin on
film noir.
John Williams
also gives us another
excellent film score, including a very famous signature we all know and love.
The first hour of the
film was
excellent but the climax was pretty weak (sinfully teasing at an epic airplane fleet battle that never takes place) and the closing epilogue narration felt extremely rushed (
also contains a gimmicky «The end?»
The brilliant cast
also contributes to making this the
excellent film that it is.
Ryan Phillippe is routinely
excellent (he has the ultimate «BS face»,
also seen in «Breach») and the
film doesn't get too pretentious because it's evident it's just a fun little movie.
It's
also a remake of the
excellent Swedish
film Let the Right One In, and director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) pays homage appropriately, sticking to the slow, methodical, foreign
film sensibility.
The
film is the directorial debut of Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (two of the Oscar - winning screenwriters of The Descendants), who
also pen the
excellent screenplay and take supporting roles.
Shelly casts her
film well, not only in an
excellent Keri Russell at the forefront, but
also in most of the supporting roles.
The Thunder Buddies return next week with the U.S. release of the comedy sequel Ted 2, and a rather

Like many of the successful
films at TIFF, it
also relies heavily on an
excellent ensemble that includes Kristen Wiig, Christoph Waltz, and, most notably, Hong Chau.
Blu - ray Highlight: In addition to an
excellent six - part documentary that runs the entire gamut of production — from location shooting in Romania, to Nicolas Cage's (creepy) performance capture of the Ghost Rider, to special effects and more — the Blu - ray
also includes a feature similar to Warner Bros.» Maximum Movie Mode where directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor dissect the
film (sometimes pausing it to discuss certain scenes in more detail) with the help of behind - the - scenes footage.
It's
also worth noting that Allen's modern update of «Bill and Ted's
Excellent Adventure» is the highest grossing of his career, earning solid return on a
film that only cost $ 17 million to produce, with a gross of $ 56.3 million.
While English comedies of this sort can go the way of cute and light Feel Good Brit Flick (an often way too saccharine genre), they can
also produce generally winning
films like «Billy Elliot» and «The Full Monty,» and production company Big Talk have an
excellent track record, with «Shaun Of The Dead,» «Attack The Block» and «Sightseers» among their triumphs.
Barbara Cupisti (of Soavi's Deliria) has a small role, and the
film also benefits from Manuel de Sica's memorable score and
excellent pacing by editor Franco Fraticelli.
It
also pretty much reconfirms Affleck's talent as a director — following his
excellent Gone Baby Gone which remains one of my favorite
films from the last couple of years.
Highlighted by yet another
excellent audio commentary by writer / director Craig Brewer, the single - disc effort
also includes a making - of featurette («Conflicted»), a behind - the - scenes look at the
filming of the «Black Snake Moan» musical sequence, and another on the
film's musical influences («Rooted in the Blues»).
It's
also an
excellent example of how to do the third chapter of trilogy properly, and proof that Marvel
films are still incredibly entertaining in the wake of The Avengers.
The
film pivots on Julie Andrews's inarguably
excellent performance as Maria — she not only sings with great skill and charm, but no doubt
also brought lots of audience goodwill and a useful aura of maternal efficiency from her performance in Mary Poppins the previous year.
The Blu - ray
also features an
excellent 69 - minute documentary, The Soul of War: Making Hacksaw Ridge, which covers the
film's long journey to the silver screen.

Visually, this is a stunning
film, captured in a beautifully hazy luminescence by cinematographer Brandon Trost (who won the Cinematography award at the 2015 Sundance
Film Festival), and the
film's period detail is
also excellent.
Chadha has
also assembled an
excellent supporting cast, from legendary British thespians in Sir Michael Gambon and Simon Callow, who play General Hastings Ismay (Pug) and Cyril Radcliffe respectfully, and Indian
film and theatre actor Neeraj Kabi, who provides an utterly convincing portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi.
Adam Driver, more of a wild card as the
film's villain and heir apparent to Darth Vader, is
also excellent, tempering his intimidation with the right sort of confliction to draw the audience in.
Margin Call arguably has the edge over that solid
film, though, since it not only boasts an
excellent main and supporting cast, but the stakes are
also much higher this time around.
This year, Doremus was back with the
excellent «Breathe In» (which
also stars Jones), and the filmmaker clearly still has an eye for talent, as Mackenzie Davis, who co-stars in the
film, was one of the most talked about actresses in Park City.
Lastly, a full audio commentary from 2010 by longtime TIME
film critic Richard Schickel is
also included on this
excellent Blu - ray release.
Making things even more astounding is that it is Cretton's second feature
film, a terrific start to his career but
also an
excellent piece of work one could retire on.
Allen has
also created platforms for his actors to go on winning Oscars ® themselves, making this
film an
excellent vehicle for Stone to be nominated once again, after her nomination last year for Best Supporting Actress in «Birdman.»
Not only is Lance Daly's newest feature a rollicking western with fantastic action and
excellent performances, it
also demonstrates how a
film's subject matter can add much - needed pathos and nuance to a genre.
The two
also give some background info Hemmings, star Contouri (who ultimately retired from acting after a brief stay in Hollywood), the
excellent locations at an artist colony and dairy refinery, plus a funny explanation about why Aussies shoot such striking widescreen
films.
The episode

However, just as it's a predictable response that the majority of people who saw Up were viscerally impacted by the first 10 minutes, the reaction to the
film as a whole has
also become slightly stereotypical, summed up as follows: the so - called «Married Life» montage, in which we watch the lead character, Carl Fredricksen, and his wife, Ellie, as they live their lives over multiple decades, culminating in her death at an old age, is
excellent.
If you've read Janet Halfyard's
excellent score analysis for Elfman's Batman score (published by Scarecrow Press, and
also reviewed by MFTM), the featurette basically adds a fat chapter on the composer's transitional period from stage to
film; it's already well - outlined in her book, but the DVD's interview fills in some gaps that Elfmanites will find highly informative.
If the
film's riff on «The Champ» works at all, it's because of the lived - in relationship between Gyllenhaal and Laurence, and it suggests big things to come: she was
also excellent in SXSW drama «Lamb» and as the young Pensatucky in «Orange Is The New Black» this year, and is playing a lead role in David Lowery's upcoming «Pete's Dragon.»
Speaking of Swayze and cradling, cast in Francis Ford Coppola's
excellent adaptation of S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders as responsible eldest brother Darry, shepherd to wayward Ponyboy (um, C. Thomas Howell — no fooling (Darren Daulton is
also in both
films)-RRB-, he turns in the
film's keystone performance.
Jonathan Demme's buoyant mid-Eighties yuppie road movie is, in retrospect, maybe the key American
film of its era along with Blue Velvet (
also 1986, but Blue Velvet was more popular), but despite
excellent reviews very few people went to see it.
Release Date: Since her
excellent 2010 debut I Will Follow, DuVernay has become an impressive force to be reckoned with, challenging herself across a dizzying number of projects and platforms (including the short
film The Door, which went to Venice 2013, television projects such as a compelling portrait of Venus Williams with Venus Vs. for ESPN's «Nine for IX» series, and «Scandal,» plus she unveiled a surprise documentary project this year with The 13th, an
excellent portrait of the troubling history of racial injustice within the criminal justice system — and
also the first documentary to open the New York
Film Festival).
Parrack
also does an
excellent job at injecting humor into the role, and gives the
film a charismatic supporting player.
His opinion carries weight because, in addition to being
excellent, he's
also the
film critic for NPR's «Fresh Air» and «CBS Sunday Morning.»
Toni Collette was
also fantastic in her small scene in The Hours, John C. Reilly was in four
films and
excellent all around, Meryl Streep and Julianne Moor both doubled up as well, I
also enjoyed Tom Hanks in Catch Me If You Can (not his best, but still very good) and Robin Williams
also had Insomnia, a truly surprising performance (I really liked Al Pacino in that one too).
As well as the usual
excellent crop of top feature
films debuting at the New York Film Festival, there is
also an equally impressive presentation of some of the best documentaries being made today.
But those in the know have been keeping tabs on Nichols since his breakout sophomore effort, the provocative apocalypse tale Take Shelter, and over these three
films (
also including his debut, Shotgun Stories, and the moderately successful and
excellent Mud), he has established himself as a strong Southern voice on the independent scene, the sort of director who makes you sit up and take notice whenever he announces a new project.
