St. John at the end of his Gospel, remembering perhaps the third verse of his first chapter, makes a charming
acknowledgment of this necessary incompleteness: «And there are
also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be
written everyone, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be
written.»
