Mercedes - Benz GLK250 Bluetec
Although the GLK350 gets a
new direct - injected V - 6 (with 34 more hp and another 15 lb - ft of torque), the biggest GLK powertrain news for 2013 is the arrival of the GLK250 Bluetec
diesel model.
Following on with Porsche's recent distancing of itself from
diesel, the
new Cayenne E-Hybrid promises reduced fuel consumption and emissions,
although how much attention has been lavished on driving pleasure, we're not so sure.
Although the concept version premiered with a
new 1.5 - liter Skyactiv - D
diesel engine, we aren't expecting to see this powertrain in the U.S. anytime soon, given the delays Mazda is facing getting the 2.2 - liter Skyactiv - D to market in the Mazda 6
Diesel.
Although Bluetec refers to Mercedes - Benz's
new diesel technology, these hybrids both will use a 3.5 - liter gasoline V - 6.
Jeep might also finally get its wish to sell a
diesel Wrangler in America,
although it will likely use a
new four - cylinder rather than the V - 6 offered in the Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500.
The rugged box frame chassis and selectable 4x4 system underneath is a proven set - up,
although the 2.4 - litre
diesel engine in the
new Hilux has only been around since 2015.
And
although the 1.2 litre 3 - pot should be the engine of choice,
diesel - obsessed buyers in the UK will probably opt for the
new MINI One with the 3 - pot

Engine choices for the UK are likely to kick off with just the GLC 220d and GLC 250d
diesels,

new AMG GLC 43, with its 326bhp petrol V6, and a GLC 350e plug - in hybrid.
Although diesels are declining in popularity and will account for around 20 per cent of sales — partly due to the excellence of
new petrol engines — they're still the best choice for high - mileage drivers and the 114bhp 1.6 and 148bhp 2.0 - litre are proven elsewhere in the VW Groups cars.

diesel SQ5 launched in 2013 and
although the stats insist the old
diesel was faster to 100km / h (5.1 vs 5.4 sec), the
new SQ5 is still red hot.
This
new car will be sold as a 2015 model, and

diesel, the only version coming to the US will be the GLA250.
Although the 1.5 TDCi
diesel is a bit
newer, it has been serving well in the B - MAX supermini - MPV, Focus family hatch and C - MAX people carrier, so it should be fine.
It's a shame then some other aspects of the ASX lack similar sparkle,
although the
new turbo -
diesel, which has 60Nm more torque than the old 1.8 - litre engine, certainly adds some valuable grunt to the line - up.
The 7 Series» 3.0 - litre six - cylinder
diesel is smooth and powerful, and
although it's a little less potent than the S - Class»
new engine, the BMW's lighter kerbweight helps keep it competitive with its limousine rival here.
With the engine choices likely to be limited to the 3.0 litre SDV6 and 5.0 litre Supercharged (
although we'd love to see the 4.4 TDV8 make its way in to the
new Range Rover Sport too), performance of even the 3.0 litre
diesel should see numbers around 7.0 seconds to 60mph, with the 5.0 litre supercharged version decidedly sub-5 seconds.
Although it's familiar to the previous model (and Isuzu's
new 1.9 - litre turbo -
diesel engine has been ruled out Down Under for now), the 3.0 - litre engine is significantly redesigned.
There will be plenty of choice if you dash off to a Mazda dealers to grab a
new CX - 3, with 11 petrol and seven
diesel variants to choose from in SE, SE Nav, SE - L, SE - L Nav and Sport Nav trim options,
although the engine choices are limited to just the 104bhp SKYACTIV - D and the 118bhp SKYACTIV - G petrol, apart from the Sport Nav auto models which get a 148bhp version of the petrol.
Although the
new 3.0 - litre turbo -
diesel V6 engine is less powerful now, it uses significantly less fuel, emits less carbon dioxide and is Euro 6 compliant.
However, SPCCI engines won't come cheap and will therefore be positioned — at least initially — at or near the top of the
new Mazda3 line - up,
although the
diesel - style compression - ignition technology will eventually be applied to all Mazda petrol engines.

although Land Rover aren't saying at the moment, and does 32.5 mpg, and nor are they telling us what the
new 3.0 litre V6
diesel can do in terms of performance, but we do know is it has 254bhp and can do 37.7 mpg.
Although somewhat symbolic, the
new legislation coincides with the 2040 end of gas and
diesel vehicle sales.
