altitude trail through delicate tundra to visit an alpine
lake and take
in breathtaking views of the Continental Divide.
We started out
in the Andes Mountains, elevation 16,000 feet, to look for a
lake that had been recorded
in the 1880s as having the highest -
altitude leech ever found.
The hike
in acidity can kill plants and wildlife: Over the last 2 decades, scientists have documented harm to thousands of
lakes and rivers and millions of hectares of high -
altitude forests.
One of them broke apart at an
altitude of about 18 kilometres, the other sailed on to eventually land
in Lake Chebarkul, leaving a 7 - metre - wide hole
in the ice.
He flew just over 275 meters, at an
altitude of about five meters, over a
lake in Quebec before losing power and falling

The opportunity to dive
in a high
altitude lake should not be missed and the underwater scenery is otherworldly.
There is a place
in the Swiss Alps at 1400 meters of
altitude with a
lake surrounded by foresty hills and cliffs, Lac Taney.
From here you can visit high -
altitude lakes and experience once -
in - a-lifetime mountain trekking.
As Inle
Lake is located
in a relatively higher
altitude, even during the peak of summer, the average temperature is around 30 °C while during the cooler months (December to February), temperatures can drop to 10 °C at night.
We sat down by the side of the
lake, nibbled on our cheese sandwiches, took some obligatory photographs, swapped travel tales and

Titicaca is the highest large
lake in the world with many animals and plants adapted to the high

I am probably the only person who has toured Peru and didn't go to Macchu Picchu, but I did get terrible
altitude sickness
in Lake Titicaca.
