Where once the two stood side by side — then rivals, as almost identical JRPG
adventures — there are now two very
different schools of thought behind them — while the FF team attempts to reinvent the genre in the wake of a boom in the popularity of Western RPGs (almost to the point of leaving RPGdom behind
altogether), the DQ team embraces its heritage, choosing instead to innovate on far more subtle levels and keeping its presence on consoles where content is not dictated or hamstrung by potential financial or time investments.
