 The Harper government's decision last
year to write off every penny
of the auto aid and thus build it all into last
year's deficit calculation (which I questioned at the
time as curious and even misleading) has already been proven wrong. Since the money was already «written off» by Ottawa as a loss (on grounds that they had little confidence it would be repaid — contradicting their own assurances at the same
time that it was an «investment,» not a bail - out), any repayment will come as a gain that can be recorded in the budget on the revenue side. Jim Flaherty has learned from past Finance Ministers (especially Paul Martin) that it's
always politically
better to make the budget situation look worse than it is (even when the bottom has fallen out
of the balance), thus positioning yourself to triumphantly announce «surprising
good news» (due, no doubt, to «careful fiscal management») down the road. The auto package could thus generate as much as $ 10 billion in «surprising
good news» for Ottawa in the
years to come (depending on the ultimate worth
of the public equity share).

Up front we have a few world - class players surrounded by some serious pretenders... Sanchez is by far the most accomplished player in our attack but the controversy surrounding his contractual mishandling could see him go before the window closes or most definitely by season's end... obviously a mistake by both parties involved, as Sanchez's exploits have never been more on display than in North London, but the club's irresponsible wage structure and lack
of real intent have been the real undoing in this mess... Lacazette, who I think has some world - class skills as a front man, will only be as
good as the players and system around him, which is troubling due to our current roster and Wenger's love
of sideways passing... Walcott should have been sold
years ago, enough said, and Welbeck should never have been brought in from the get - go... both
of these players have suffered numerous injuries over their respective careers and neither are
good enough to overcome such difficulties: not to mention, they both are below average first - touch players, which should be the baseline test for any player coming to a Wenger - led Arsenal team... Perez should have been played wide left or never purchased at all; what a huge waste
of time and money, which is ridiculous considering our penny pinching ways and the fact that fans had been clamoring for a real striker for
years... finally Giroud, the fact that he stills wears the jersey is a direct indictment
of this club's failure to get things right... this isn't necessarily an attack on Giroud because I think he has some highly valued skills, but not for a team that has struggled to take their sideways soccer to the next level, as his presence slows their game even more, combined with our average, at
best, finishing skills... far too often those in charge have either settled or chosen half - measures and ultimately it is us that suffer because no matter what happens Wenger, Gazidis and Kroenke will
always make more money whereas we will
always be the ones paying for their mistakes... so every
time someone suggests we should just shut - up and support the team just think
of all the sacrifices you've made along the way and simply reply... f *** off
In other news, our team seems to be rounding nicely into form, with a productive off - season and several new additions already settling in, there seems to be a renewed sense
of confidence in the air... our
well - oiled machine has conducted business again early this
year, so we can just sit back, kick our feet up and watch all those other suckers scramble to make panic moves in the 11th hour...
of course, we need to tie up a few loose ends but our team
of savvy negotiators, under the tutelage
of our faithful leader, will perform their usual magic with ample
time to spare... I have to laugh when I look around the soccer world and see all those teams look upon us with envy and scorn as they struggle to mimic our seemingly infallible business model... thank goodness the powers that be had the foresight and fortitude to resist the temptations
of the modern football era... instead
of listening to all the experts and simply taking the easy way out by making the necessary improvements on the field and in the front office, we chose the path never traveled... we are truly pioneers in our field... sometimes you just have to have faith in the people that have
always conducted themselves in a respectful and honest fashion... most fans aren't so fortunate, they will never know what it's like to follow a team that treats everyone in and around the club as if they were an extended member
of the family... all for one I say... so when you wake up this morning, please try not to gloat when you see rival fans pacing back and forth waiting for their respective teams to pull the usual panic buys, just say nothing and be thankful that it isn't you... like I've
always said, this is why you stay the course... this is when the real benefits
of having someone in charge for over 2 decades really pays off... have a great day fellow Gunners
Perhaps if we'd strengthened the team in the summer we'd be
better able to cope with the inevitable injuries and fatigue that
always seems to occur at this
time of the

Should this even be a topic?Giroud is a player
of average quality
always surrounded by
good players.I just don't get. It's as if only Arsenal fans rate him. This was a player who was bought to be the leading striker at Arsenal and after his
years of failure which many deny he's now become a super sub?How laughable is that. From failure to super sub.If the so called world class striker we're signing goes out with an injury for about five months who comes in then.It seems to me people lack vision. Why is it
always Giroud Giroud Giroud? After so many seasons people are still debating what souldn't even be debatable.I've lost count
of the number
of times he's been talked about here. This is the problem with our club. It's just not ruthless. This is a player who should have been gone long ago but due to him being French he still gets the chances. We won't miss him when he goes and I'd like to see if he'd stand out in a smaller club.
its frustrating being a gunner every single period
of the season including the transfer window... we want to b d
best but our transfer situations begs to differ... how many tyms do we need to shout spend, spend, spend b4 dat happens???? wat is d point
of being in d «top 10 financially rich clubs» list every
year but don't spend like 1????? sure, we'll buy d odd 30m player but is it enough... dat stingy prof will
always look for «value» for money spent but he has dat worked out for d past 12
years walcott - waste tbh chamberlain - waste chambers - so far, waste spending 15m five
times is 75m which could have been used to buy 2 top 30m signings....
If Barca make a cash + Rafinha bid for Bellerin we should sell him.We should also demand a satisfying amount. In the future if Rafinha wants to go too we can let the cycle continue. All we have to do is make sure we benefit from their talents.I still imagine what if Wenger had accepted the Thiago Alcantara and Bojan + cash bid for Fabregas. They could've have been far
better than they are today under Wenger had he accepted the offer
years back.Let's not make the same mistake with Bellerin.I don't know if he'll even be staying beyond next season.Bellerin is very expensive as
of now and to me we should cash in.A player like Rafinha will definitely become a great player in Arsenal. He just needs his chances and can do that.At
times you need to have foresight in business. It's not just about keeping the player you want to keep but also about doing everything possible to make sure you're
always profiting.
Thank you Arsene For all the
good times we enjoyed during your
time as our manager. You made us one
of the
best teams playing beautiful football. You have been a legend however the later
years thing started to go wrong but you will
always be remembered for taking a team who was struggling to keep pace with the big boys to being one
of them.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety
of reasons, most importantly because over the
years our once vaunted «beautiful» style
of play has become a shadow
of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out
of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid
of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did
years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out
of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes
of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play
of Monreal, but none
of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio
of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (
better last
year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple
years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've
always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did get a bit
better during some points in the latter part
of last season... it
always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger
always seemed to play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong
times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part
of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature
of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player
of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out
of position far too many
times since arriving and that the players in front
of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that,
of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one
of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one
of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some
years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already
of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs
of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at
times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack
of mobility is an albatross around the necks
of our offence... so when you ask who would be our
best starting 11, I don't have a clue because
of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
I am pissed today hearing about Olivier Giroud three
year contract and salary he is earning. That is unfair because Giroud does not deserve it.He has not worked to show that he deserves it.We should look at the quality snd output
of our players before paying them.Well its too late now so we should look forward. We do nt need stats to even tell us that Girouf is usually average for arsenal than
good at most times.I would have sold him if i was Wenger because he does not deserve to be leading the line still after 3
years and i doubt he will like to warm the bench. He is very lucky to have Wenger as a coach
of arsenal london fc.Arsenal has not moved forward because we think getting rid
of players is a bad thing. We
always hesitate when it comes to selling players we do nt need.Arsenal need a world class cf not a world class cf.Its is
time to move forward by addressing our mistakes.Since Van persie left we have needed a cf and ifBenzema is available we need to get rid
of who we do nt need so that we move forward.Arsenal do not need Giroud though many may be against my speech.Once the premier league starts and Giroud is our main cf it shows that Wenger has not learnt from his mistakes.Just as we got Cech who to me was a need he needs to just find as a reliable and clinical cf.
There's no doubt the varsity athletes are
better, and it's likely they've put in more
time over the
years, but the freshmen and sophomores are less likely to be motivated to do the same if they are
always getting bumped out
of the gym by the older kids.
Hi Fatboy, it may all change this
year, and I for one would not be surprised if we do finish behind the spuds and out
of the top four come May, I was
always a big AW supporter and would constantly say to other gooners to be cafeful what you wish for, but the
time has come, no genius makes the same mistakes over and over again, when was the last
time Arsenal played champagne football, its not
good enough to say we do nt worry about how the other team are going to play we just play our game, this has not been working for
years now and a change is needed, if AW cant change then we need some new
Joining a club
of arsenal s stature has its ups and downs. There is a requirement
of how our players should perform when on the pitch. The following is a list
of players who were wrong to choose arsenal.Aaron ramsey - Even though he is the most favoured
of all players at the club now.I cant help but think how it would have gone for Him if he decided to search for other greener pastures. He was a clear talented footballer during his
time at cardiff but he hasnt been raised with the discipline at arsenal. You can
always see ramseys all round strengths but sadly Its not helping him or the club with his foward moving pleasurr. He is so Over used and its sometimes difficult for him to get used to the rythm
of the game.With
time you realise he gets low ib confidence and his engine gets wasted. He needed somebody who would have managed him properly and with care and that person is certainpy not wenger. You would have been
better off at Manu mate.Calum chambers - Came us a very talented player from southampton with raw talent. He was very
good at first but wenger found a way to reduce his level
of confidence. His inexperience was left exposed and wenger did nt do anything to resolve that problem and instead He looked for other talented players.Alex oxlade chamberlain - Another very talented player who needed only his skilled sharpened and his character modelled. That and he was ready to become a world beater. But wenger decided to let him run and run like a headless chicken causing him to be often injured and damaging his confidence.Who knows what would have happened to him gad he decided to look for more greener pasture. He is surely a much
better player than this.Theo walcott - Another player who was tipped to have a very bright future. He had it in him.But all he needed was an appropriate manager who would nurture him with discipline and help him with his talent. But on Coming to arsenal he was given Much more responsiblities putting more weight on his shoulders on top
of that another player who was recklessly managed with his talent and never coming off age because his character wasnt properly shaped.Mesut ozil - Al right i agree he perfoms
well just recently. But imagine all the legendary players he was often compared to during his
time at real madrid. On coming to arsenal he found no rotation often overused, suffered many injuries and his confidence dwindled. It is pretty clear arsene does not take any responsibility for players. And when at arsenal you have to be your own manager. You need not rely on your manager otherwise you might continue being the same player for the next many
years. That is why each and every player are what they are because
of their own efforts and wenger had nothing to do with it.Van persie was the same player for over 7
years untill he himself decided to change.Wenger only organises and prepares tge team while the rest is in your court. It is not what so many people make it out to be.Thats why we need to pressure wenger more than our own players. They are their own self managers and wenger needs to take that responsibility
well i know the guys in england belittle the spurs the whole
time (the fans outside
of england do nt really feel the hate, because in switzerland for example is the hate on chelsea muuuuuch stronger ^ ^) you got ta be real and accept that spurs are a top 6 team, and drawing against them isn't such the worst result and the «pundits» and a lot
of guys here
always bash arsenal that they don't have the title mentality to get a point from a win and a win from a draw, so i think in the
years before, we would have
well lost the game, so i am happy with the point, and the fight
of the guys
Secondly, Wenger needs to become far more flexible when it comes to his formation selections... remember this is the same individual that hadn't used a 3 - back system for 20
years and only conceded to the experiment when the proverbial shit hit the fan... you know it killed him to adopt «Conte's» system, which is probably why he resisted so long; in fact his stubbornness to adjust even earlier might have cost us the 4 hole... much like most sports that have tactical formations, every team should have a «base» offensive and defensive scheme, but they likewise need to have some inherent flexibility depending on the opposing teams tactics and / or when specific substitutions are made... how many
times have you watched a Wenger - run team make a late substitution but not change their shape on the pitch... furthermore, how many
times have you seen our team fail to make the necessary adjustments at halftime due to Wenger's tactical stubbronness, which often led to giving up goals in the early minutes
of the second - half... the
best teams in the world know how to make halftime adjustments whereas we
always seem to be surprised when the opposing team throws a wrinkle into the mix following halftime... this my friend is soccer 101
I can remember as a child my father taking my to see Stoke City who
always out sang the away teams and the passion flowed through to their players, what's happend to Arsenal, what was the quote from Roy Keane Our club is in a downfall last nights Ossian average Gibbs - plays like a winger bel - looked out
of his depth Mert NOT

Arsenal fans have definitely seen the
best and worst
of Aaron Ramsey over the
years, but Arsene Wenger has
always supported the young Welshman during his
times of trouble, and even kept faith when the young Ramsey was going through an appalling run
of form.
TCU has seemed like Texas in those pre - ’63
years, when they were in position to go to the very top and yet
always seemed to lose key games to the likes
of TCU and Rice, who had damn
good coaches at that
time.
You see development doesn't
always happen in a linear fashion and a lot
of players develop at different
times... It could be a 24
year old striker playing in Ligue 2 rapidly developing and rising to having one
of the
best goal per minute ratio in the premier league.
Last season, in Zidane's first
year as coach
of the senior team, the football wasn't
always luxurious or loquacious but it was seen as a damn sight
better than what Rafa Benitez was serving up previously, regardless
of whether the Spaniard had been treated fairly or not, or given the
time to get it right.
