One of the first animals tobenefit could be the Panamanian golden frog, a striking yellow toad now extinct in the wild that has become a symbol for amphibian conservationists (see right).
It's a pity, really — if whales wereamphibians, that much maligned and oft ignored group might benefit from some of the huge amounts of public sympathy (and money) available to cetacean conservation.
