As the disease worsens it can lead to
tissue damage, ulceration and gangrene, and in extreme cases may require the
amputation of the affected limb.
Tendon
damage, lacerations, deep muscle and
tissue wounds, and disfigurement are frequently the consequences
of dog bites, although some animal bites result in
amputations, and in the worst cases, fatalities.
