The
nub was extremely useful in games that used a virtual
analog stick
on the touch screen, and rarely ever useful outside of that.
On the plus side, this means that players can use the
analog nub to do whatever they want with the camera during the action.
Well just how in the heck do they plan
on bringing that type of gameplay onto a system with a single
analog nub?
The
analog nub controls your movement, Circle activates the lock -
on, Triangle is boost, X is primary fire, Square fires missiles, and the shoulder buttons cause your aircraft to roll in either direction.
Admittedly it is hard to be very precise
on the PSP's
analog nub, but since the game can also be played
on the PS3 it is much easier with a Dualshock 3 controller.
The tiny rubber
nub looks and feels like the pointing stick you'll find in many business laptops, but it's surprisingly responsive and does an admirable job handling functions that are typically performed with a right
analog stick
on console controllers.
There was a technique called the claw
on the PSP where you would hook your index finger up to use the D - Pad while your thumb controlled the
analog nub.
Also
on the front are the four PlayStation face buttons (Triangle, Circle, X, Square), the directional pad, the
analog «
nub», and several other buttons.
Unlike the PSP, which had a single
analog nub, the Vita's dual sticks screamed for a developer to make a FPS to demonstrate that the genre could finally be enjoyed
on the go.
The sliding mechanism
on the screen hides the main face buttons and the
analog «
nub» when not in use.
The biggest change is the addition of a second
analog stick
on the right hand side of the console: a small
nub absent
on earlier devices unless you owned the CirclePad Pro peripheral.
Many went so far as to contort their fingers into a «claw» to manipulate the awkward camera controls (thankfully a non-issue
on the New 3DS and New 3DS XL, with their extra
analog nubs).
The new
analog nub is considered by Nintendo to be similar to the C - Stick
on the Gamecube controller.
