Suffice it to say that the conceptuality which I accept — and accept because it seems to do justice to deep
analysis of human experience and observation, as well as to the knowledge we now have of the way «things go» in the world — lays stress on the dynamic «event» character of that world; on the inter-relationships which exist in what is a societal universe, on the inadequacy of «substance» thinking to describe such a universe of «becoming» and «belonging», on the place of decisions in freedom by the creatures with the consequences which such decisions bring about, and on the central importance of persuasion rather than coercive force as a clue to the «going» of things in that universe.
The Christian
analysis of human experience as exemplifying a «mystery of iniquity,» or a ubiquitous «missing» of the experience we most deeply seek and need, means that the explication of Christ's transforming effect upon humanity will not involve merely a perfecting of our intrinsic capabilities, but an overcoming of human hostility to God's aims, a healing of human deformation consequent to that hostility, and a reuniting of humanity with the God from whom we are estranged.

analysis of human experience may very well feel that it is not adequate to describe that experience as if we were speaking about some persistent «I», to which things happened; a self which did things that were, so to say, merely adjectival to the substantival «I».
But the question is one that must be faced by any process philosophy or theology which sets out to use
an analysis of human experience as a basis for characterizing God.

Two sentences in the discussion
of reason in the earlier version
of the report could be taken to support the use
of such
analysis: «By reason we relate our witness to the full range

Upon careful
analysis, at least ten such points become apparent: (1) Blake alone among Christian artists has created a whole mythology; (2) he was the first to discover the final loss
of paradise, the first to acknowledge that innocence has been wholly swallowed up by
experience; (3) no other Christian artist or seer has so fully directed his vision to history and
experience; (4) to this day his is the only Christian vision that has openly or consistently accepted a totally fallen time and space as the paradoxical presence
of eternity; (5) he stands alone among Christian artists in identifying the actual passion
of sex as the most immediate epiphany
of either a demonic or a redemptive «Energy,» just as he is the only Christian visionary who has envisioned the universal role
of the female as both a redemptive and a destructive power; (6) his is the only Christian vision
of the total kenotic movement
of God or the Godhead; (7) he was the first Christian «atheist,» the first to unveil God as Satan; (8) he is the most Christocentric
of Christian seers and artists; (9) only Blake has created a Christian vision
of the full identity
of Jesus with the individual
human being (the «minute particular»); and (10) as the sole creator
of a post-biblical Christian apocalypse, he has given Christendom its only vision
of a total cosmic reversal
of history.

of a psychological
analysis that tends to show how slight the power
of reason, how great the strength
of obscure passions; how corrupting
of children the possible love
of mothers and the wrath
of fathers; its portrayal
of men and mankind in bitterly disillusioned novels and in shuddering chronicles
of man's inhumanity to man — in all this the 20th century has perhaps gone beyond anything that Edwards said in dispraise
of men, individually and in the collective.

Because, it is claimed, evaluation presupposes valuation as a condition
of its possibility, any merely «disinterested» or «value - free» understanding
of human reflection is
of necessity excluded.20 Any consideration
of the evidence
of experience could only in the nature
of the case ever illustrate, but logically could not falsify what must always necessarily be the case, even if such a consideration could well force a limited reconstrual
of the hermeneutical
analysis always itself presupposed in the strictly conceptual presuppositional
analysis which uncovers the necessity
of such elemental valuing.21

human beings (including physicists)
experience.
