Now for the obligatory sequel question; does anyone really want a second Anchorman movie anymore?
One of the charms of the original Anchorman had to do with the little absurdist bubble in which it operated.
The plot forced Burgundy away from the news desk, and he is separated from his crew for quite a long time (much longer than the similar move in Anchorman, which amounted to only a few scenes), and Ferrell by himself without Paul Rudd, David Koechner, and Steve Carell to play off doesn't work nearly as well as the ensemble moments.
And then, on top of that, I am no particular Will Ferrell fan, as I am one of the few people in my circle of friends who did not like Anchorman (though I loved Elf and Stranger Than Fiction, which are admittedly atypical of his usual vulgar output).

In the otherwise breezy Little Miss Sunshine he was bearded and suicidal, while in the Anchorman films, he memorably essayed a tragic weatherman struggling desperately with his cripplingly limited intellect... Okay, so Steve Carell hasn't really done «serious» before.
If you don't know his work, I strongly suggest you see a few of his flicks like: «Be Cool,» «Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,» «Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story» and «Old School.»
