Our
anesthetic protocol was designed based on consultation
with experts in this field, and each patient receives customized anesthesia based on its species, age, health and gender.
This examination includes a pre-surgical blood screen that — along
with your cat's
anesthetic history, preexisting conditions and age — will be used to determine a unique anesthesia
protocol.
The
anesthetic protocol we used was typical for this procedure; in particular premedication
with Atropine, Butorphanol and Midazolam; induction
with Etomidate; and finally Isoflurane maintenance.
Most (if not all) of the
anesthetic drugs used in human medicine are available for use in veterinary medicine and
protocols can be surprisingly similar
with some species specific exceptions.
On the day of surgery, all patients undergo a thorough and complete pre-surgical examination and this is combined
with pre-surgical bloodwork to aid our veterinary team in designing an individual
anesthetic protocol specifically for your pet.

anesthetic protocol, cats and dogs of any age will benefit from this routine procedure, and in many cases, it may even enhance the quality and length of their lives considerably.
