animal breeders understand good animal husbandry practices and work hard to ensure the best care for their animals.

We
understand the challenges that
breeders and their companion
animals face, so we consider it our responsibility to aid them in any way possible to make the process run more smoothly.
They try to solve this problem by encouraging or requiring people to spay or neuter their pets (to reduce the number of cats and dogs who need homes), 57 encouraging people to adopt
animals from shelters rather than purchasing them from pet stores or
breeders (to increase the number of people looking to provide homes to
animals in shelters), 58 and donating money to shelters and foster programs that care for cats and dogs waiting to be adopted (so they can house
animals for longer).59 Collectively, these solutions have greatly reduced the number of cats and dogs euthanized in shelters.60 The problem is well
understood, although making further progress in solving it may be expensive in areas where all these solutions have already been implemented.
It is a good idea to spend time working with a pig
breeder or
animal rescue association that deals with pigs so that you fully
understand the scope of the care you will be expected to give to your pig.
But to truly
understand the actions of this
breeder and the suffering of
animals, the truth must be shown.
And before the
breeder community raises a fuss about how this new law will undermine their business, everyone should
understand that the restrictions will only apply to commercial (i.e. pet stores) businesses selling
animals.
I have NO problem with REPUTABLE
breeders who breed for the love of the
animal — I think there is a place for them While I will never buy a dog ever because I am 100 % dedicated to rescuing, I
understand there are those that really want a purebred.
An
understanding of simple autosomal recessive and dominant patterns, as explained above, can allow the
breeder to make better informed decisions (even though we do not yet know the mechanism of inheritance) and likely avoid future deaf
animals without sacrificing a breeding line that has been shaped over many years.
