This document reviews the experience with the use of home -
modified animal milk and possible ways to improve its nutritional composition.
If a mother can not feed her baby herself, and no wet nurse is available, then other alternatives have to be found,
usually animal milk.
So physicians began to become involved and tried to make infant feeding scientific, by studying the ingredients of human milk and trying to
adapt animal milk to the needs of infants.
Infant formula is an option when it is available, affordable, can be used safely and provides a nutritional or other advantage
over animal milk.
This mutation, an adaptation permitting the drinking of
animal milk throughout one's life, spread quickly in succeeding generations.
Within a short time thereafter, lactose can no longer be broken down and causes severe diarrhea
if animal milk is ingested.
Say goodbye to cheese made
from animal milk and say hello to the wonderful world of nut and seed cheeses.
If reduction of the lactose content in cow's milk (by providing mixtures containing milk and staple food products, or by decreasing the lactose
in animal milk - for example by traditional fermentation) does not bring any improvement, the next step in management would be to give a milk - free diet using soya based formula, or a cereal based diet.
For example, a study from 1979 found that infants fed soy formula in the first six weeks of life grew less and failed to thrive as well as infants who were breast - fed or
fed animal milk unless the soy protein was supplemented with methionine.
The baby's body then creates an immune response which can be targeted at the wrong protein - often either lactose or bovine (cow) casein (an important protein present in all milk, but in different forms depending
which animal the milk comes from) causing an allergic reaction the next time these proteins enter the intestines.

Animal milks given to infants less than six months need to be modified by adding boiled water, sugar, and micronutrients.
It should be noted that milk - based formulas, including homemade formulas, contain trans fats (Mozaffarian et al., 2006; Satchithadandam et al., 2002; Ratnayake et al., 1997), and most formulas contain common allergens such
as animal milk or soy proteins.
We really love and rely on yogurt for breakfasts, but we cringe
at animal milk.
MCT stands for Medium - chain triglycerides, or medium - chain fatty acids, which are prevalent in coconut oil, palm oil, and to varying degrees in
certain animal milks, such as goat's milk.
Ronnen founded Kite Hill after a biochemist from Stanford introduced him to an enzyme that would curdle almond milk much as rennet
does animal milk, something that no one had done before.
Animal Milks vs. Formula Any doctor will tell you that an infant should wait until his first year to be introduced to regular milk.
• Fortified milks can undermine good nutrition in young children since they are almost universally higher in sugar than a
plain animal milk or unsweetened milk alternative.
Feeding
straight animal milk was often associated with severe illness and death of the baby, either because the milk was not clean due to lack of refrigeration or infected with tuberculosis, or the ingredients were unsuitable for human infants, present in too large or too small quantities.
In the past, mothers who could not breastfeed have relied on everything from evaporated milk to cocktails of
various animal milk products, most frequently cow's milk.
Often pediatricians are determined to
provide animal milk - derived fortifications to human milk feedings, even when mother's and donor milks are ample.
Choose animal milks and eggs that are local and grass - fed / pastured, as they tend to be more nutrient - dense (specifically, higher in Omega - 3 fatty acids that are difficult to come by from a meat source in the typical American diet).
Decreasing the lactose content of
animal milk by the traditional method of yoghurt making may be beneficial in some patients.
Milk from
animals Animal milk should not be routinely restricted during the treatment of acute diarrhoea.
The article argues the ability to
digest animal milk after weaning conveyed an evolutionary advantage in times of reduced supply of other food resources.
No bottle - feeding was reported, and,
when animal milk was consumed by the infants, it was fermented and semisolid.
Have a look at our table below to see the exact lactose content of the most
common animal milks:

They are not present in either quality or quantity in
other animal milks, nor have they been synthesised or imitated by modem science.
In societies that lacked refrigeration and in
which animal milk was thought to foster stupidity in the infant who imbibed it, almost all people experienced their first nourishment and pleasure at a woman's breast.
Some believe that
raw animal milks will not cause the same problems, but this idea has yet to be well documented.
