Disturbingly, fathers identified a lack of «real information», a lack of recognition for their role, lack of engagement during
the antenatal education process, and lack of commitment to breastfeeding by hospital staff as barriers they needed to overcome in their role as advocates and supporters of breastfeeding.
Some research found that
antenatal education for fathers increases their knowledge about pregnancy, the birth
process and also enhances parenting skills (Barclay et al., 1996; Schott and Priest, 2002).
