You read
about index
funds,
mutual funds, stocks and real estate and now and then
about bonds â $ ¦ but hardly ever
anything about annuities.
For many years personal investment brokers were touting the benefits of
mutual funds because they were a managed investment vehicle in which you literally owned a small piece of a pie along with other members in the
fund and you didn't really need to know
anything about market movement.
That made one of my eyebrows rise, because I'm under the impression that with every investment; whether you're talking
about an actively managed
mutual fund, an index
fund, an EFT, or
anything else; when you get down to the core of what is being traded, you're dealing in stocks.
(Newsflash, most
mutual funds will invest in just
about anything that might offer a potential return; the managers don't care if it comes from a gun manufacturer or cigarette company.
This is true, but do past returns tell us
anything about future returns when it comes to
mutual funds?
I didn't have a clue
