The distinction arises because in some instances a
group of occasions, such as, for example, a
particular enduring entity, could have retained the dominant features
of its defining characteristic in the general environment,
apart from the structured society.
In the catalog
of the Guggenheim's 1996 - 98 traveling retrospective, curator Diane Waldman wrote: «Kelly's need to make color an independent entity and to align it with a specific shape and space may have set him
apart from a
particular group or movement, but it has not set him
apart from the art and culture
of the 20th century nor from the age - old issues that animate art and give it its true meaning.
