apple and pumpkin picking and... fall decorating!
I'm so excited for
apple and pumpkin picking season to be back!
The leaves, the crisp - cool air,
the apple and pumpkin picking, the scarves and coats and sleepy weekend mornings in cozy sweaters and slippers... and these pancakes.
With fall upon us (the season's official start is in a few days), now I want to do all the fun outdoor adventures like
apple and pumpkin picking and hayrides with my entire family.

pumpkin is such a part of New England tradition.
The good news is once I get over that awkward hump where I'm hanging onto the very last tomato the summer has to offer, I'm 100 % in for
apple picking, carving
pumpkins and trips to Vermont to eat
apple cider donuts hike.
We love to bring back some mementos in the way of a few
pumpkins for decorations, as well as fresh -
picked apples and other deliciously flavorful edibles to feast on
and enjoy for the flavor of the season.
I truly love being about to enjoy being outside
and doing fall - ish things with my family —
apple picking and pumpkin picking, watching the hounds at one of the local farms, or playing on the playground while bundled in sweatshirts.

and so much more!
There's something special about this time of year when the weather starts to cool down, the leaves turn beautiful shades of orange
and red,
and there's
pumpkins,
apples and all other sorts of fall foods everywhere that you can go
and pick as well.
I'm looking forward to fall leaves,
pumpkins (
and all the things that can be made with
pumpkins),
apple picking,
and cider donuts.
Sure, I started with a kale, spinach,
apple, pineapple
and mint juice, but I also
picked up a carrot
and ginger soup, raw sushi
and pumpkin muffin, all vegan
and all gluten free.
With
apples, pears,
and pumpkins ripe for the
picking, fall is the perfect time to whip up a sweet dessert.

But I started to resolve that this weekend as I
picked up over 15 lbs of
apples from a local orchard
and broke open a few cans of
pumpkin for a fall baking fiesta.
Our
apple trees are nearly
picked clean,
and pumpkins are flying out of the fields!
We have been
apple picking (at Terhune)
and we plan on doing some
pumpkin picking either there or somewhere else in the area before Halloween.
Apple picking,
pumpkins, squash, cinnamon on everything, sweet potatoes, glowing leaves outside, cranberries, crisp fall breezes, trips to the mountains, extra mugs of tea
and coffee, or even cocoa
and cider!
Fall is also the time of bountiful harvests including fresh
picked apples, pears, squash
and of course the quintessential icon of fall, the
pumpkin.

This is a great weekend to admire the leaves, visit a
pumpkin patch,
pick the last of the
apples, take a hay ride, get lost in a corn maze, eat
apple cider donuts,
and get your basic autumn - in - New - England fix.
It meant
apple picking and pumpkin carving
and talking about what my Halloween costume would be for that year.
Aside from the walking,
picking, hauling,
and leaf - peeping you might expect,
apple orchards
and pumpkin patches often offer all kinds of «agri - tainment.»
When I think of fall, boots, chunky knits,
pumpkin patches,
and apple picking are just a few favorites that come to mind.
Apple picking and pumpkin picking in the fall, snowshoeing
and skiing in the winter, hiking
and yard sale shopping in the spring, swimming
and boating in the summer.
Starting August 31, Smolak Farms in North Andover is offering
pick your own
apples and pumpkins, baking cider donuts
and apple pies,
and hosting special fall events like hayrides each weekend.
