For this solo exhibition in PC - G's Hunt - Cavanagh
Gallery, San Diego artist Robert Andrade presents a site - specific installation
of new work that builds upon his evolving language
of sculpture, public
space, Modernist
architecture and construction materials as fine art supplies.
The building's
architecture is harmoniously tiered with generous exhibition
spaces: six exhibition
galleries for the display
of post-1960 collections, two temporary exhibition
galleries and three permanent exhibition
galleries (contemporary art, Inuit artand decorative arts anddesign).
She also writes frequently on art and
architecture for international books such as Automatic Cities: The Architectural Imaginary in Contemporary Art (Museum
of Contemporary Art, San Diego, 2009),
Space (MAXXI Museum for 21st Century Arts, Rome, 2010), and Ruins (MIT Press and Whitechapel
Gallery, 2011).
In the 1960s and 70s, as the parameters
of art expanded to incorporate
architecture and performance and increasingly drew on urban theory and the politics
of everyday life, the model
of the artist - run
gallery space gained enormous relevance.
Her first works, made during the 1980s, were constructions or spatial extensions
of existing
architecture such as

Evasion, a 4 - inch deep recessed rectangle, the size
of a regular door is inset in the
gallery wall, it alludes to
architecture, domesticity and signification
of an «other» external
space; the depicted
space that lies in the realm
of representation and art.
Fowler's walls are at once
architecture, a sculpture, an exhibition
space, an object, and a subject, while Rees's paintings are simultaneously performative site - specific installations and painterly objects that are tethered to the
gallery space and the temporality
of the show.
Underscoring McKenzie's interest in design, theatricality, and
architecture, the exhibition also includes a «sublet»
of gallery space to McKenzie's peer, Scottish fashion designer Lipscombe, who will exhibit her fall clothing line in one
of the constructed rooms within the
gallery.
Using the
gallery's condition
of high visibility, Spooner considers the characteristics
of corporate and museum
architectures by amplifying and exaggerating certain qualities in the
space through the use
of soft acoustic panels, daylight bulbs, and background noise.
Adjaye has said the vaulted, skylit
gallery spaces were informed by the
architecture of the San Antonio missions.
In this vein, the Hessel Museum's
architecture has been reconfigured to echo a series
of domestic settings; various
galleries have been converted into
spaces that suggest a living room, bedroom, dining room, hallway, vestibule, and library or study.
Each exhibition is specific to the size and
architecture of the museum or
gallery space.
Hodges is currently working on mosaic - like paintings, constructed with small shards
of mirror that reflect / warp the viewer and surrounding
space with a disturbing elegance; site - specific wall drawings that reorient
gallery architecture with a full Prismacolor palette and Lewitt like precision; and collages made with assorted sheet music that reference the Cubists and John Cage, allowing for a performable poetry that includes a «milk - y Blue per - fec - tion» located «Some - where near — the end
of the skies.»
In the first
gallery, a converted threshing barn with exposed beams and sandy brickwork, the artist has built her own timber lattice from cheerfully painted planks, which echoes the barn's
architecture whilst standing independent
of it, inhabiting the
space in a provisional, makeshift sort
of way (untitled: GIG [detail]-RRB-.

Photographer Adam Schreiber examines the relationship between art and
architecture in eight photographs on display in the
gallery space of Linda Pace's CAMPstreet penthouse apartment.
His tiled pieces (also seen at the FEEL UP collaboration with Eddie Peake at Lismore Castle in Ireland in early 2015 and his first solo show home from home at Arts & Jobs London in 2012) as well as the steam like aluminium panels (also shown at Jhaveri Contemporary in 2014 and Gwangju Biennale

architecture of specific public
spaces such as toilets, saunas and bathhouses.
