If the context behind the
arguments is not included, the public just sees dispute, and can simply lump a science fight with those
over abortion,
gun rights, energy policy and other issues framed by ideology or values as much as (or more than) data.
Maybe judith should go
over there and insist that they stick to their
guns, since she found their
argument compelling earlier, without having bothered to look into Steig's side of the story.
(The teacher pointed out that when «fights or
arguments over something on Twitter, or Instagram, or just how their day went and having a bad day and somebody just reacts to them wrong,» having a
gun in the classroom is the last thing you want.)
