As for increased sealife around oil rigs as a good thing (previous comment)-- please note that sea life congregates
around outcroppings in the ocean — in the case of oil rigs though, the sea life ends up with dangerously high levels of mercury from mercury contaminated drilling muds.
On the north end there are exceptionally alive tidepools (check them out at night — during a full moon if you have the chance) and good snorkeling
around the outcropping.

Another good snorkeling spot is
around the protected coves and rocky
outcroppings at La Posada beach, where you can swim to an underwater cave, or walk there at low tide.
There are stretches of beach where you'll have to walk on the road as the rocky
outcroppings are too large to walk
around on foot and too dangerous to swim
around.
There are walking paths
around the home to take advantage of the many viewing areas, and large granite
outcroppings and lovely gardens.
There are a few rocky
outcroppings you can cross at low tide or look for a inland trail
around the rocks.
When the ocean is calm, snorkeling is very good
around the rocky
outcroppings that define both ends of the beach.
