articles of The New York
Times's Judith Miller that built support for the invasion
of Iraq; the media campaign to destroy UN chief Kofi Annan and undermine confidence in multilateral solutions; revelations by George Bush's biographer that as far back as 1999 then - presidential candidate Bush already spoke
of wanting to invade Iraq; the real reason Bush was grounded during his National Guard days — as recounted by the widow
of the pilot who replaced him; an
article published throughout the world that highlighted the West's lack
of resolve to seriously pursue the genocidal fugitive Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, responsible for the largest number
of European civilian deaths since World War II; several investigations
of allegations by former members concerning the practices
of Scientology; corruption in the leadership
of the nation's largest police union; a well - connected humanitarian relief organization operating as a cover for unauthorized US covert intervention abroad; detailed evidence that a powerful congressional critic
of Bill Clinton and Al Gore for financial irregularities and personal improprieties had his own track record
of far more serious transgressions; a look at the practices and
values of top Democratic operative and the clients they represent when out
of power in Washington; the murky international interests that fueled both George W. Bush's and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaigns; the efficacy
of various proposed solutions to the failed war on drugs; the poor - quality televised news program for teens (with lots
of advertising) that has quietly seeped into many
of America's public schools; an early exploration
of deceptive practices by the credit card industry; a study
of ecosystem destruction in Irian Jaya, one
of the world's last substantial rain forests.
What follows is meant solely as an illustrative example
of how a
value investor might think; we make no claims or recommendation to buy or sell any stock or security nor is the information you read necessarily still accurate by the
time you see this

Dr. Ambomaje, in a recent
article on the internet reminded me
of the character testimonial that then Vice-President Mills who had been a personal friend
of mine for over 30 years at the
time gave me on 5th September 2000 when he introduced me to the public at the NDC Headquarters thus: «Prof. Mills described Mr. Amidu as someone who shared his personal
values, adding that his nominee has character, integrity, experience and sound judgment.
«Added
value» is in quotes because it is the title
of an
article written by Sarah Murray, and published in the «Health» magazine
of yesterday's (9/16/09) Financial
Times newspaper.
The
value of volume has been mentioned various
times throughout this
article so you can probably guess where this is going — a good way to measure your progress is to see how much volume you are doing at one point compared to an earlier one.

Times questions the
value of treating cholesterol with statin drugs in this

I would
value you opinion on this recent
article (see link) that equates higher protein intake with increased rates
of all - cause mortality (twice the rate) and also death from cancer and diabetes (four
times the rate) compared with low protein consumption.
The newly empowered schools should live or die by their performance; similarly, SSOs would lose their customers if they proved unable to support high achievement (which is how the stock
of K12, Inc., lost 40 percent
of its
value following a single critical
article in the New York
Times).
The authors address three criticisms
of value - added (VA) measures
of teacher effectiveness that Stanford University education professor Linda Darling - Hammond and her colleagues present in a recent
article: that VA estimates are inconsistent because they fluctuate over
time; that teachers»
value - added performance is skewed by student assignment, which is non-random; and that
value - added ratings can't disentangle the many influences on student progress.
The
Times began publishing
articles in August using
value - added analysis to estimate the effectiveness
of thousands
of district teachers in raising test scores.
I also argued (but this was unfortunately not highlighted in this particular
article), that I could not find anything about the New Mexico model's output (e.g., indicators
of reliability or consistency in terms
of teachers» rankings over
time, indicators
of validity as per, for example, whether the state's
value - added output correlated, or not, with the other «multiple measures» used in New Mexico's teacher evaluation system), pretty much anywhere given my efforts.
Almost always it is the case when a counterpoint is needed for an
article such as this, that a teacher says they see «
value» in the system, but almost if not every
time it is because
of the increased professional observations
of teacher practice, not the
value - added component or the
value - added data derived.
The district began issuing its own
value - added scores after The
Times published a series
of articles last year based on the newspaper's analysis
of district data.
The writers
of the
Times article are either uninformed or disingenuous about the status
of the
value - added measures.
In a recent
Time magazine
article, Andrew Rotherham explores the real
value of a college education related to standard
of living.
When The
Times, for instance, published a series
of articles analyzing teacher performance using a «
value - added» statistical approach, Duffy not only rejected the methodology but also blamed the paper for the suicide
of one teacher who received a so - so ranking — plumbing the depths
of Duffy's cynical demagoguery.

However, an
article in Tuesday's New York
Times may present a different view
of how much Google's founders truly
value environmental sustainability.

article on Huffington Post, Gleick writes
of three types
of peak water: renewable, where water flows are constrained over
time; nonrenewable, such as groundwater sources, where we pull more than can be naturally replenished; and ecological, which is the point beyond which the cost to the local ecology
of using the water is higher than the
value of using it for human consumption.
Lawyers have obviously had a lot
of time to reflect on the
value of the
articling process, what it provided them personally, and the
value it provides to the profession.
But getting the most
value out
of your
time isn't solely up to the quality

of undid the table — clearly it's
of little
value to put together an average when the leaving
times vary so much between
time of year (August can be very quiet, for example) and between departments (Corporate — see you in six months, tax, pensions etc — see you at 6 pm tonight).
In the highly popular and famous
Time Magazine, I remember
of an
article by Kathleen Kingsbury in 2008 with the title, «The
Value of a Human Life: $ 129,000».
