Looking at Annapurna's diverse emotional and
artistic film lineup, it's exciting to think about what this portends for Edith Finch and other games under the Annapurna Interactive umbrella.

At the festival's announcement press conference,
artistic director Thierry Frémaux hinted that another work from a woman could be added to the
lineup in the coming days (the festival will likely announce at least a few more selections; at the very least, Cannes has yet to reveal its closing night
film).
Based on the setting alone, the
film trips over every obvious German stereotype in the book - from the uninhibited cultural attitudes, to the kinky sexual indulgences, to the peculiar
artistic tastes, smaller automobiles, penchant for beer and Euro - trashy nightclubs, etc., etc., etc.... Beyond that, the
lineup of comedic gags and sequences feels like mishmash of ideas that never seem to balance out tonally with other jokes, not the entire dramatic side of the
film.
After Cannes
artistic director Thierry Frémaux announced the
lineup in April, French cinema owners protested his plan to premiere the two Netflix
films without their having a theatrical release in France before hitting the streaming service.
