Bringing together
artists from different parts of the
continent, this group exhibition strives to define and articulate notions of feminism and sexuality in the work of women
artists whose body (their own or that of
others) serves as a tool, a representation or a field of investigation.

The vision for the new gallery is not only to have solo shows by established and emerging
artists but to introduce local audiences to
artists from other parts of the
continent and further afield.
The majority of artworks in the Collection are of Irish origin but regular purchases of work by
artists from other countries and
continents ensure a fascinating range of material
from painting to film and installation, by
artists as diverse as James Coleman, Rebecca Horn, Stephan Balkenhol, Willie Doherty, Sean Scully, Dennis Oppenheim and Joseph Kosuth.
African
artists suddenly had more exposure to the work of their counterparts
from other continents, had more opportunities for formal training, and were not as restricted by political and social pressures to limit art making to «tourist art.»
