in New York City.

Life Painting @ Hillyer Art
Space «An independent figure drawing class that allows students to work from a nude model
in your choice of mediums.While easels, chairs and artistic ambiance are provided by Hillyer,
artists are required to bring their own drawing materials.
The show consists of over 136
artists from fifty - three countries, and will feature a
space for
live programming
in the Central Pavilion designed by David Adjaye called The Arena.
Mind you, I like seeing the studios — the tools and materials of each
artist, how the setups differ from
artist to
artist, medium to medium, and whether the studio is a work
space or a
live / work
space — but
in terms of viewing the work, the experience is best for me when the work is easily viewable.
The exhibition highlights the political dialogue inherent
in the
artist's artistic interventions — from his concern for the extreme plight of the homeless, his interest
in direct community engagement, his belief that we should expand our
lived experience of a city into its underground and other inaccessible
spaces, and his commentary on development and socioeconomic stratification.
Apart from a stint
in Tokyo, 1964 — 1967, the
artist lived and worked
in the District until her death
in 2004, maintaining a succession of studios during a period when affordable
space across the city was still available to
artists.
