decade and a half and later destroyed by the Allied bombing during the Second World War, this massive walk - in sculptural environment — a precursor to installation art — filled a portion
of the
artist's Hannover, Germany home by the time he fled the Nazi regime in 1937.
Among the 136
artists and collectives — both Mexican and foreign — who have created some 200 works in Mexico City
over the
period of a
decade are Francis Alÿs, Minerva Cuevas, Damian Ortega, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Gabriel Kuri, Carlos Amorales, Teresa Margolles, Lourdes Grobet, Jimmie Durham, Fernando Ortega and Thomas Galssford.
The exhibition traces the
artist's evolution
over a five -
decade -
period and brings together more than 200 photographs, including his iconic images
of familiar, everyday subjects in addition to lesser - known, early black - and - white prints and provocative video recordings.
