In its seventh year, the competition offers a six - month residency across Italy, customised to the personal needs and practice
of the
finalist, as well as two solo shows based on the
artwork the winner conjures up as a result
of the trip.

The first round
of decisions have already taken place with 25
finalists having
artwork presented in the exhibition.
According to Angela Nichols, Director
of Programming & Exhibitions at the Hudgens, «I had studio visits with all
of the
Finalists to talk about what they would be including in this exhibition, and I'm so excited for what they are presenting individually, and for how those
artworks will come together as a collective experience for the viewer.»
The jury will select 110
finalists who will show their
artworks at the Arsenale
of Venice in March 2013.
The piece presented the participating artists — PIPA Prize's eighth edition
finalists, Antonio Obá, Bárbara Wagner, Carla Guagliardi and Éder Oliveira — and the
artworks the four exhibit at the Museum
of Modern Art
of Rio de Janeiro (MAM - Rio) since last Saturday, September 23rd.
His
artwork was recently featured in the «Hudgens Prize
Finalist Exhibition» at the Hudgens Center for the Arts, and also in «Sprawl, Drawing Outside the Lines» at the High Museum
of Art.
The exhibition will present newly commissioned works as well as existing
artworks by the four
finalists, through which the audience will partake in the artists» vision
of what contemporary art holds in terms
of promising potential and new directions.
3.3.1) The 4 (four)
finalists should present
artwork (s)
of their own authorship, preferably but not necessarily new, for the exhibition to be held at MAM - Rio under the curatorship
of Luiz Camillo Osorio in partnership with the Curator
of MAM - Rio.
