Portrait mode works just as you'd expect, and while Xiaomi does market it as being great for taking portraits of someone, it also works great
as a bokeh mode, which we did some testing with while we had the phone, and you'll see that in the gallery below.

Pro photographers love their background blur, known

You can adjust the amount of blur, also referred to
as bokeh, surrounding the subject before or after pressing the shutter button.
One is monochrome (slightly higher resolution this year, at 20 - megapixels, as per the Honor 8), the other colour (the same 12 - megapixels, as per the previous generation), or both can be used in tandem for depth - mapping to create a pseudo wide aperture effect (that soft, melty background, known
as bokeh - user - defined between software - based f / 0.95 and f / 16).
The iPhone 8 Plus continues to blur the lines by adding depth — also known
as bokeh — to a photo with a new feature called Portrait Lighting.
It boasts a metal - and - glass chassis, introduces a 2:1 screen, adopts Android 8, pass the best processor, and includes table - stakes tools such
as bokeh photography.
Not exact matches
Bokeh is defined
as «the way the lens renders out - of - focus points of light.»
It's something to get used to since it's a fixed focal lens
as in you can't zoom in or out but it has wonderful
bokeh!
Also, there is a new default camera app that has features such
as Live
Bokeh and Background Blur Shape.

Camera features aren't everything, but the monochrome mode on the View 10 is a great option,
as is the Portrait mode, the editing suite, and the ease with which
bokeh shots can be manipulated after taking them.
And the 7 - megapixel selfie cam know some new tricks
as well; for example, it now supports Portrait mode, so you can now take
bokeh - enhanced selfies.
This means that even without a
bokeh mode, the Intex Aqua Selfie ends up with a higher score for
bokeh compared to other devices such
as the Lava Z25 (20), whose the
bokeh effect shows significant problems such
as depth estimation failures, an abrupt blur gradient, and noticeable artifacts.
A wide aperture doesn't only help with low light, it also means more «real»
bokeh —
as in what exists without fancy AI tricks and dual lenses.
The blur is not
as aggressive
as we've seen on some other devices however, and the classic circular highlights that you'd expect to see with an optical
bokeh effect are not rendered.
In the indoor portrait image comparison below, you can see that the Pixel 2 improves significantly over the Pixel, but that the background blur and
bokeh are not
as natural
as that provided by the iPhone 8 Plus's dual - camera system.
The
Bokeh and AR Camera effects, for example, both live
as app icons (
as well
as being part of the camera interface).
As with previous high - end Huawei smartphones, the monochrome camera serves several purposes: it helps with depth estimation for the simulated
bokeh effect, and the fine detail and low noise levels of the monochrome sensor improve image quality when zooming and in low light.
The aim of using two sensors is to give you better image quality,

Subject isolation is good
as well, but under closer inspection, some minor segmentation artifacts tend to be visible around the foreground subject, and dynamic range is a little more limited in
bokeh mode than in standard shooting mode.

as a benefit for
BOKEH anyway... just like I did with my s8
Basically, what you see on the Galaxy S9 + is what we expect to see on the Note 9
as well: A 12 - megapixel primary camera that can switch between two apertures (f / 1.5 and f / 2.4) and a secondary 12MP camera that provides 2x zoom and
bokeh photos.
In order to make the photo look natural and
as close to a real DSLR photo
as possible, Apple's image processor goes through the layers one by one and blurs them in varying amounts, an effect known

as per its price tag and did
bokeh well most of the times, and it looks like
as if its successor is also going down the same path.
Both the front
as well
as the rear cameras on the Vivo V9 are capable of producing a
bokeh effect in your pictures.
There's an ability to take realistic
bokeh shots
as well.
There is also the matter of quad cameras — there are 13.0 - megapixel and 2.0 - megapixel combinations on the front
as well
as the back, with the purpose of the second camera mainly being to bring on the
bokeh by collecting and using depth of field information.

as its commonly referred to in the photography community.
Its detail and accuracy is particularly impressive,
as is the steadily - improving simulated
bokeh effect.
The company has provided a proprietary Camera app that supports a custom
bokeh effect, which isn't
as smooth
as the one a dual - camera featuring Xiaomi Mi A1 and OnePlus 5.
The portrait mode is still in beta, and
as you capture
bokeh photos, you will experience some errant results.
Nokia 8 has a portrait mode
as well, called live
bokeh in the camera app.
