This week's PlayStation Store update caters for the rallying and racing fan
as DiRT Rally, MXGP2 and WRC 5 eSports Edition all hit PS4.
While not quite as focused or simply as great
as DiRT Rally, it's another strong entry in the series.
As good
as DiRT Rally was last year, it felt very alienating even to someone such as myself that's played every single DiRT game from the very first Colin McRae Rally.
So, to simply answer your question — Fun and accessible for first time fans, but as challenging
as DiRT Rally for those wanting the challenge.
Even with its most difficult handling options turned on though, WRC 6 is not as tough
as DiRT Rally, and in that way it may not completely satisfy the simulation crowd.
It's brutal and unforgiving, but that has certainly worked for other titles such
as DiRT Rally.
While not quite as focused or simply as great
as DiRT Rally, it's another strong entry in the series.

Rally career but am loving it so far!

Gone is the rewind feature that Codemasters themselves made popular, in - line with making
DiRT Rally as authentic an experience
as possible, which seems to be very much the case.

as development wrapped up on the 190E 2.3, the four - wheel - drive turbocharged sledgehammer that was the Audi Quattro smashed onto the
rally scene, rendering the naturally aspirated, rear - wheel - drive Mercedes nearly uncompetitive before it even made its first

rallying videogame yet.

It's the fast, winding
dirt roads, in fact, where the XV feels most at home —
as one might anticipate, given Subaru's
rally pedigree.
EVERY racer seems to be road oriented (except that average looking one that also was supposed to be a launch title,
as it seems to have both race styles), but apart from that half hearted looking attempt, NONE of the systems (Wii - U, PS4 or XBOne) have ANYTHING offroad race themed on the horizon... No ATV games, no bike racing games (
dirt or road), no
rally games, & no uniquely awesomely fun titles along the lines of what Motorstorm offered PS3 owners who love some redneck style racing....
When
Dirt 1 came out many fans became annoyed
as the series became americanized and drifted away from its
rallying route's.
While its big brothers in the main
DiRT series focus on a more realistic approach and plenty of
rallying, Showdown is all about going big or going home, featuring a more destruction derby style of gameplay, encouraging players to get physical
as they race for the finish line.
I think if Codemasters hadn't specifically referenced
DiRT Rally there would be less of a division between fans, because when you play
DiRT 4 it feels quite clearly like it was meant to follow in the footsteps of
DiRT 3
as a more relaxed game that anyone can enjoy.
It's a more forgiving style that makes it a much easier game to play using a controller and more welcoming for general racing fans, but some of the tense, on - the - edge feeling of
DiRT Rally gets sacrificed
as a result.

dirt tracks, Gran Turismo
Rally, and more that have yet to be announced.

We're not getting just a few tracks either, like you'll found in
DiRT Rally,
as the development team has confirmed seven tracks will make it into the game (that's two more than the upcoming
DiRT 4 too).
Key collaborators include Harry Corr, a talented environment artist who has worked on titles such
as Grid 2 and
Dirt Rally; David Housden, a BAFTA nominated composer, best known for his original scores for Thomas was Alone and Volume; and Benjamin Hill, a writer and producer whose notable projects include the critically acclaimed Ether One and IGF Nominated Duskers.
In fact, only one - fifth of
DiRT 2's career events can be considered
rally - complete with co-pilot direction and hairpin turns -
as Rallycross is strikingly similar to the arcade action found in the other events.

DiRT Rally has been out for quite some time now; first in Steam's Early Access program, then becoming a full release
as of December last year.

As the
dirt is dynamic it will be interesting to see how the car picks up the muck and grime and to see it slowly wash off under rainy conditions when the car is on the «cleaner» parts of the
rally stage.

DiRT 4 announcement gave us plenty to talk about in this week's Team VVV Video Podcast,

This can enhance the feeling of
rallying alongside other like - minded daredevils,
as can the attention to detail, such
as cars getting covered in
dirt when drifting around corners.

DiRT 3 seemed caught in two minds
as to whether to carry on with the impeccable
rallying from the near - perfect
DiRT 2 or try and turn your car into a demented pole - dancing skateboard, Showdown feels much more focused, admittedly more towards a Mad Max meets X-games mashup.

Dirt 2 The late and great Colin McRae would be mightily impressed with the latest
rally racing game by Codemasters and being a fan of the series, it's great to see the franchise
as strong
as ever and it only feels like yesterday seeing those 2 - dimensional crowds and that famous English accent telling us to turn left, right in order to prevent us from crashing.
