The comedic banter between him and his sidekick Giordino, which comes off in the books more
as a protective surrogate than the
drinking buddy, guy - talking second banana type we get from Steve Zahn.

as it turns out,
Drinking Buddies may not be quite what you're expecting, though that's not necessarily a bad thing.
And while just
as improvised
as «
Drinking Buddies,» the seams of this extemporization aren't
as flawlessly smooth.
Shot on grainy 16 mm film («
Drinking Buddies» was shot digitally), the look of the film (lensed by Ben Richardson of «Beast of the Southern Wild» fame) is definitely a step backwards, and it appears
as if the filmmakers only used available light, which doesn't make for the most flattering photography.
In Wind Across the Everglades, the next film he directed, in 1958, an Audubon Society game warden (Christopher Plummer) and a renegade bird trapper (Burl Ives) in the swamps of Florida wind up
as temporary
drinking buddies and fellow celebrators of «protest.»
The film is littered with solid Australian actors and performances from Leah Purcell's small role
as Farmer's receptionist to Rex's Broken Hill
drinking buddies played by John Howard, Alan Dukes and David Field.
One could look at «Happy Christmas»
as a step backwards from the commercial progress Swanberg made with «
Drinking Buddies,» but in truth it's akin to a less - successful lateral move.

After appearing in such indie darlings
as «Safety Not Guaranteed,» «
Drinking Buddies «and «The Pretty One,»
as well
as the hit FOX sitcom, «New Girl,» Johnson is a memorable addition to the first installment of the Dark Universe, the shared universe of the rebooted versions of the original Universal Monsters.
Happy does not pack the impact of
Drinking Buddies, because its character study doesn't have
as many layers or places to go.
He's probably best known for his role in the slasher flick You're Next, but Swanberg's 2013 effort
Drinking Buddies earned him plenty of notice
as writer / director with a refreshing voice.
Johnson co-wrote and produced the story with Swanberg, their second script collaboration after «Digging for Fire» and third
