LLL brought me here
as something of a curiosity.
Throughout our years in Rome I have been a part of this
LLL group,
as a mother,
as a Leader Applicant,
as a Leader, and
as an IBCLC.
My mother was a La Leche League member when my little sister was born and I went to my first
LLL meeting (
as an adult) while I was pregnant.
As a mom, an
LLL Leader, and an IBCLC, I have a great interest in the customs of breastfeeding and parenting in all cultures.
Putting the allergy issue to one side I also had been exposed to many a nursing toddler through
LLL and came to see that
as the norm.
During the past 50 years, I can't tell you how often a mother or father has come up to me at an
LLL gathering and admitted that
as a result of being in La Leche League, they were parenting their children so differently than they had originally expected to and so differently from the way they had been brought up.
What might have happened if those seven women had decided not to found
LLL and the rates of breastfeeding had stayed
as low
as they were in the 1950s?
People's view of the «crazy radical ideas» from
LLL shifted
as these became mainstream medical advice.

as someone stopping at a
LLL booth to plop down their bottle and can of formula, mix it up, and then feed the baby while having it photodocumented so you can piss off BF activists online.
