as Spay Day USA by the Doris Day Animal League (DDAL) in 1995, World Spay Day is now a program of The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), Humane Society International (HSI) and Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association (HSVMA).
It started 18 years ago
as Spay Day USA, but The HSUS's annual campaign to call attention to the importance of spay / neuter has always included participants from around the world.

All of our board members, who are all volunteers, are active either in the trenches providing

That's why the last Tuesday in February has been set aside
as World
Spay Day in an effort to raise awareness of the problem of animal overpopulation and the importance of having pets

day for each animal in the shelter not including additional expenditures such
as spay and neuter procedures, wellness exams, and emergency medical care or other life - saving treatments coordinated through local veterinary clinics.
We don't see

days because so many people have their cats
