Orcs are equally as intriguing in comparison to Talion and Celebrimbor as they have their own hierarchy as captains lead their warriors, archers, hunters, defenders, savages and more besides into battle, although captains are not the highest in rank
as warchiefs outrank captains
as warchiefs fulfil their duty as bodyguards for overlords who have the important task of being in charge of the fortress within that specific region.

The nemesis system lets you create your own nemesis
as when you start the game you are given a random selection of orc captains and
warchiefs that are completely random and unique to your own game.
Most of the
Warchiefs are found in these areas of the map known
as Strongholds, which are essentially orc encampments setup in various spots around Mordor.
Needless to say, I found myself frustrated early on
as every time I attempted to fight a
Warchief, I wound up battling four or five other Captains and their armies simultaneously, forcing me to focus my efforts on everyone except the
Warchief I was targeting.
The Warmonger
Warchiefs are always honing their skills
as they cut a bloody pathway across Mordor killing anything and everything in their way and with every drop spilt they honour Sauron's name.
The particular weaknesses or invulnerabilities of each of these captains,
warchiefs or overlords have a palpable impact on how each fight is approached, building on Shadow of Mordor to deliver a combat system that's
as much about preparation and poise
as it is doing someone in with a sword.
You can command allied Orcs on your team to remain by your side, attack a particular enemy and behave in various ways
as Talion's bodyguard or even a
warchief's bodyguard to help protect a fortress.
For example, one story - oriented Orc
warchief could have the ability to grab nearby Orcs and use them
as living projectiles, or another Orc could somehow negate Talion's ability to brand and control Orcs.
Zogdush escaped and,
as a result, became a
warchief, the highest rank in Sauron's army.
It starts out simple, such
as tracking down a
Warchief's bodyguards and branding them, giving you the upper hand in a future battle, but it can get incredibly complex with the right amount of planning.
