as a lesbian Catholic with no discernible call to monastic life, the absence within the Christian churches of a deep understanding of the human need for vocation is glaringly obvious.

That culture maintains a number of «nurturing and networking» organizations, such
as Dignity, Coalition for
Catholic Lesbians, New Way Ministry, and Communication Ministry, Inc..
If Vatican documents included some mention of these «problems» in future discussions of homosexuality, they would be guaranteed a fairer and more respectful hearing than such pronouncements presently receive from the secular homosexual community and increasingly from the gay and
lesbian Catholic community
as well.
A friend, who is
lesbian, told me, «You don't know what it's like to have people question your love, for a
Catholic think you're a sinner, for a family member think you're going through a «phase» with the person you identify
as the love of your life, or for kids to stare at you for those two seconds longer in a restaurant, because it's still not «the norm.
