Those considering the Galaxy Tab (or any Android - based tablet)
as a netbook replacement or modular computer for mobile productivity need to think carefully about the speed issues of running Flash and the issues with «mouse - over» and Ajax websites.
While I would agree that Apple doesn't seem to condone the use of the iPad
as a netbook replacement, I'd disagree that such attitude should dictate how the device could be used by the user, and I'd disagree that it necessarily bars the iPad from being used as such.
Many analysts have been claiming that larger tablets could be seen as notebook replacements in the same way the first tablets were seen
as netbook replacements.
Not exact matches
It can even be used
as a
netbook or laptop
replacement if you're happy with its limitations, and dare we say should run Windows 8 beautifully when that OS comes out, expanding its flexibility further.
Its plastic construction, chunky frame and relatively heavy weight stop it from being
as attractive a commute partner
as an Android tablet or iPad and its flawed keyboard add - on means it's not a great
replacement for a
netbook.
I think one thing to keep in mind with the criticisms of the tablets that lack phone capability is that a lot of people (
as per the stats we're seeing now) are using tablets like the iPad
as a
netbook / laptop
replacement, not a phone
replacement.
And
as tablet hardware gets stronger by the day, they will become a decent
replacement for
netbooks or mini laptops sooner than later.
