as Jeb Bush for years now, partly because of their success for countless
children of color living in poor communities with even poorer - performing

As noted, there is no question that parents have the right to send their
children to private
schools, but we taxpayers don't directly pay the costs associated with parochial and
other private
schools, and we shouldn't be forced to syphon off scarce taxpayer funds in order to pay for
schools like Achievement First,
schools that fail to meet the most basic criteria of what makes a
public school —
public.
But at the very moment that the
children of the land face certain defeat, parents, teachers, the teacher's union (known
as the Hartford Federation of Teachers) and
other public education advocates rally together to speak out on behalf of their
children, the
school, the importance of
public education and what is right.
When the chips are down — in
other words, when it comes to their own
children —
public school teachers are twice
as likely
as other parents to send their kids to private
schools.
If I have a son / daughter that is already enrolled in a charter
public school, will my
other child /
children be able to attend
as well?
It would be unconscionable not to support these and
other great
public schools — both
public charter and traditional district
schools — that serve
as gateways to more
children achieving the American dream.
A
public school where we have the flexibility to do what works for each
child, where health and social service providers, mentors, and a host of
others, deliver services — such
as immunizations and emergency food assistance — that are accessible to students and the entire community.
The report contains news stories, criminal records, and
other documents to detail abuses such
as charter
school operators embezzling funds, using tax dollars to illegally support
other, non-educational businesses, taking
public dollars for services they didn't provide, inflating their enrollment numbers to boost revenues, and putting
children in potential danger by foregoing safety regulations or withholding services.
Others say they look for homes outside of Cambridge in places like Brookline or Belmont to put their
children in those
public school districts, which rank higher than the Massachusetts state average on metrics such
as college readiness, math proficiency, and English proficiency.
In Connecticut, however, plenty of
other non-charter
public schools have similar groups of
children as Stamford Academy and Trailblazers Academy charter
schools, may need more support, and struggled on overall test results.
In
other words,
as the corporate education reformers who have unsuccessfully attempted to do with No
Child Left Behind (NCLB) and Race to the Top (RTTT) by falsely highlighting so - called «failing»
public schools, now want more of the same medicine with Common Core.
Others, skillfully navigate Philly's
public school system
as they choose the right fit for their own
child, all the while either whispering their support for parental
school choice or shamefully, hypocritically decrying the idea of choice.

From opposing the expansion of high - quality charter
schools and
other school choice options, to its opposition to Parent Trigger laws and efforts of Parent Power activists in places such
as Connecticut and California, to efforts to eviscerate accountability measures that hold districts and
school operators to heel for serving Black and Brown
children well, even to their historic disdain for Black families and condoning of Jim Crow discrimination against Black teachers, both unions have proven no better than outright White Supremacists when it comes to addressing the legacies of bigotry in which American
public education is the nexus.
On behalf of parents of
public school students across Connecticut, I am writing to request that you add an agenda item to the April 6, 2015 State Board of Education Committee meeting to review and address the actions taken by your Interim Commissioner of Education and
other State Department of Education staff
as they relate to the issue of a parent's fundamental and inalienable right to opt their
children out of the Common Core Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) testing program and how local
school districts should deal with
children whose parents have opted them out of the SBAC testing.
More parents choose
public schools as their
child's option to education than all of the
other options.
We are a nonprofit that does not compete with
other public schools for resources - we instead receive the resources we need, given our number of
children,
as do all
public schools.
«These results are just one, imperfect snapshot, but they tell the same story
as other data we have seen: California isn't yet prioritizing our
public schools with the urgency our
children deserve.
(e) The board shall establish the information needed in an application for the approval of a charter
school; provided that the application shall include, but not be limited to, a description of: (i) the mission, purpose, innovation and specialized focus of the proposed charter
school; (ii) the innovative methods to be used in the charter

school governance and bylaws; (ix) a proposed arrangement or contract with an organization that shall manage or operate the
school, including any proposed or agreed upon payments to such organization; (x) the financial plan for the operation of the
school; (xi) the provision of
school facilities and pupil transportation; (xii) the number and qualifications of teachers and administrators to be employed; (xiii) procedures for evaluation and professional development for teachers and administrators; (xiv) a statement of equal educational opportunity which shall state that charter
schools shall be open to all students, on a space available basis, and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, sex, gender identity, ethnicity, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, age, ancestry, athletic performance, special need, proficiency in the English language or academic achievement; (xv) a student recruitment and retention plan, including deliberate, specific strategies the
school will use to ensure the provision of equal educational opportunity
as stated in clause (xiv) and to attract, enroll and retain a student population that, when compared to students in similar grades in
schools from which the charter
school is expected to enroll students, contains a comparable academic and demographic profile; and (xvi) plans for disseminating successes and innovations of the charter
school to
other non-charter
public schools.

public schools and label our
children as failures.
