schools entrusted with the task, make it evident that they think of themselves increasingly
as branches or members of a single
community,
as orders and institutions with special duties or assignments to be carried out
in partnership with other branches of one society.
The great denominational
schools of America are among the first to admit this; but few of them are
in a position to press their perception of the diversity of the Christian
community as systematically,
as hourly,
as are the great ecumenical seminaries.
