28 % of the Berners whose hip X-rays are submitted are rated
as dysplastic, but in reality the overall incidence in the breed is probably considerably higher, since many owners do not submit the X-rays if dysplasia is suspected.
The 40 dogs described as «normal» at 2 years of age all had some «minimal or mild degenerative changes» by 9 years of age, and those 22 dogs diagnosed
as dysplastic (lax joints in the hip - extended view) at 2 years had the same mild or minimal changes.
