In the 1950s, at the height of the Cold War, Joseph Boakye Danquah, one of the revered founding fathers of our nation, stated, when defining the vision and policy of our party, that: «Our duty is to liberate the energies of the people for the growth of a property - owning democracy in this land, with a right to life, and freedom and justice as the principles to which the government and laws of the land should be dedicated to in order specifically to enrich the lives, property and liberty of each and every citizen.»

Ideas of truth, or beauty or right were not supposed to correspond to any outer or objective reality... the totalitarian regimes did not simply declare, as a dry finding of social science that peoples» ideas were shaped by environment.

There's no way of finding out how the people who signed this petition voted, but if signatories were found right across the country — in areas that voted Leave as well as areas that voted Remain — it might provide some indirect evidence that Leave voters were changing their minds.

Of course, as Employment Minister I'm all too aware that for too many people right now, the challenge is to find a job, any job.
