As part of its ongoing effort to

security of the nation's
food supply, the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) today gathered over 200 of the industry's top scientists and quality assurance experts to assess its current
food safety practices, share successful practices and develop a comprehensive plan for preventing
food - related health outbreaks.
It also encompasses social, economic and ecological considerations, such
as infrastructure, storage, waste reduction and
improving and preserving water quality — all of which are critical to achieving global
food security.
It aimed to see whether the technologies delivered benefits such
as increased productivity for rice farmers,
improved livelihoods and
food security, and bolstered social cohesion.
Reducing
food loss in supermarkets is an important issue in terms of the efforts to increase profit in supermarkets, to increase income for small farmers supplying to supermarkets, and to
improve food security in urban areas,
as well
as avoid environmental problems caused by
food waste.
As a plant geneticist, attending this conference helped me to have better understanding about the
food waste and loss in the world and new areas that I can apply my expertise to help
