Indeed, there is a clear physical reason why this is the case — the increase in water vapour
as surface
air temperature rises causes a change in the
moist - adiabatic lapse rate (the decrease of temperature with height) such that the surface to mid-tropospheric gradient decreases with increasing temperature (i.e. it warms faster aloft).
In Antarctica, this means that cold and
moister air from the surrounding oceans will blow over the interior and fall
as snow, so increasing ice mass is to be expected.
The dynamics and thermodynamics are fairly well - understood: convection (updraughts) bring
moist air up and the water vapour condenses (usually on cloud condensation nuclei, CCN)
as the
air gets supersaturated — it cools
as it ascends and expands (lower pressure).
Regionally, the changes in precipitation would grow dramatically,
as the subttropical jet would transport
moist tropical
air into the mountains; but, the strengthening of the Hadley Cell would prevent much of that moisture from forming large thunderstorm complexes outside of the higher elevations.

The warm
moist air is readily advected onto land and caught up in weather systems
as part of the hydrological cycle, where it contributes to more intense precipitation events that are widely observed to be occurring (IPCC 2007; Trenberth 2011a; Groisman and Knight 2008; Min et al. 2011; Pall et al. 2011).
